Welcome to Nashville Tennessee.

World famous today as Music City, USA, Nashville was named after Revolutionary War hero General Francis Nash (1742-1777). It became the capitol of Tennessee in 1843 and, because of its strategic position on the Cumberland River, was devastated by the Civil War. Nashville was occupied by Union troops in 1862 and was the scene of the Battle of Nashville, Tenneessee - the last great offensive action of the Confederate Army (December 1864).

In the 1870s and 1880s, it was Fisk University's Jubilee Singers who first brought international fame to Nashville as a music center when they toured the United States and western Europe. Nashville's reputation as a country music center can be traced to the 1920s, when WSM radio launched the WSM Barn Dance (later the Grand Ole Opry). The "Nashville Sound" emerged in the 1950s and the city is now home to a multitude of performers, recording companies, nightclubs, concert venues, recording studios, studio musicians, music publications and music publishers.

Today, Nashville is an exciting, vibrant city of over half a million people with its colorful Nashville hotels, restaurants and attractions. Nashville was named one of the 15 best U.S. cities for work and family by Fortune Magazine. Forbes Magazine named Nashville as one of the 25 cities most likely to have the country's highest job growth over the coming five years.
